Recognition
Sunil Puri Honored for Tourism Efforts

(RRStar, May 11, 2011, Jeff Kolkey)- Three who have contributed significantly to the region’s tourism industry were honored during today’s Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau annual meeting and breakfast. Each was inducted into the bureau’s “Tourism Hall of Fame.”

First Rockford Group founder Sunil Puri and Hinshaw & Culbertson partner Jim Keeling were honored for their involvement in the creation and development of Sportscore Two which has helped establish the Rockford region as an amateur and youth sports destination. They also worked to establish and maintain the Perryville Path and the Keeling-Puri Peace Plaza, celebrating the region’s diversity and heritage. The visionary behind last year’s Rockford City Market, SupplyCore CEO Peter Provenzano was recognized for the “transformational, collaborative and game changing effort” to create a public market in downtown Rockford. The new “ritual” as Provenzano calls it, attracted about 19,000 people to Friday afternoon markets last summer featuring food, fresh produce, arts, live music and plenty more. It returns for a second season June 3.
