Portillo's is Coming to Rockford!

Next summer he may get his wish.
An affiliate of First Rockford Group has filed documents for special-use permits with the city of Rockford for an 8,700-square-foot building for Portillo’s in Mulford Village.
“They want to submit plans on Nov. 11 and want to start construction Dec. 1, if they get city approval,” said Pankaj Mahajan, director of retail development for First Rockford. “They plan to build through the winter and open in May or June.”
A spokesperson for Portillo’s, famous for hot dogs, Italian beef and ice cream served in retro settings, could not be reached Thursday.
